In 1908, Pierre-Auguste Renoir chose to take up residence in the hills behind the seaside town of Cagnes-sur-Mer on the French Riviera. Taken by the climate, the light, and landscapes of this area, Renoir painted olive and fruit trees, flowers, as well as his muses, and began sculpting for the first time. His residence is now a museum and a source of inspiration to young artists, who I saw drawing “en plein air” sitting under olive trees on the grounds.
The museum reopened July 26, 2013, having been closed 18 months for renovation.

Thanks for commenting and have a great week!
Visited in September, thought it was magical, loved the house, could live there
I thought the grounds were as amazing as the house and yes, it would be a magnificent place to call home! Thanks, Alistair, for visiting my blog and for commenting.
The renovated Renoir house and garden is civic vandalism.
The house has been over-cleaned and painted – the radiators in a fetching shade of lilac.
Before it looked as if the artist would be back in his studio the next morning. Now it looks more like a show house ready for sale.
Even worse, the beautiful garden has been divided in two by a car park and visitor centre – totally ruining the view from the house and making half of the garden inaccessible.
Those responsible deserve to be shot.
