In my previous article about new anti-drunk driving laws in France, here is the latest, updated news:
“The government has delayed the full introduction of the controversial breath-test law, which would have penalized them for not carrying an unused kit in their vehicle. Interior Minister Manuel Valls has postponed “sine die” – indefinitely – the start of €11 fines for not carrying the tests. He had already delayed the start from November 1, 2012, until March 1, 2013, due to problems in supply and doubts about their effectiveness.”

I can tell you they aren’t putting them in the rental cars, we only learned about the requirement when we were in England and they were selling them for travellers to France.
I think everyone is now waiting to see if they drop this idea, but if not, then rental cars are supposed to be equipped with them – I’m surprised they were selling them instead! Thanks for sharing this information.
Thanks for this update, Kim. Being a very law abiding Brit and accordingly scared of the stern looking Gendarmes I must have been amongst the first to equip myself with the drink drive kit. I couldn’t actually get hold one in France!!! Finally picked one up in Halfords Motor Supplies in Cardiff so I’m all ready and waiting.
You’re welcoe. I too was among the first to buy a kit and found it at our local pharmacy! It will probably expire before they decide on this issue
